BIRD’S MOUTH BOWLS AND VASES
Bird’s Mouth refers to a turned wood piece that represents a baby bird’s mouth and head as it gets ready to receive a worm from its mother.
These are made by placing on a wood lathe a log segment that is as long as it is wide. The log is then shaped using wood chisels to simulate a baby bird opening its mouth to receive a worm from its mother. The larger round middle section represents the head of the baby bird.
