TURNED SOLID WOOD BOWLS

These bowls are turned on a wood lathe from solid chunks or pieces of timber or logs. The grain effects can range from subdued to dramatic, depending on the growth pattern of the tree and the orientation of the log prior to turning. Virtually all of our wood is obtained from our five-acre property located in Clermont County, Ohio.

The trees have fallen over, been blown over, or have died for some reason. We cut the trees with a chain saw to manageable sizes, let them naturally dry, then resaw, turn on a lathe or carve, sand, sand, sand, and finally apply an FDA approved food-safe finish.

We are blessed to have a wide variety of wood available to us, including Walnut, Ash, Maple, Cherry, Locust Cedar, Elm, Tulip, Sassafras, and Pear. Some are spalted, which means the first stages of decay are imminent, resulting in very interesting lines and coloration in the wood.
